The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has released a model of the Rironi-Mau Summit Highway, currently under construction, giving Kenyans a glimpse of how the multibillion-dollar highway will look once complete.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

The model, displayed by KeNHA at an exhibition at the Nakuru ASK show ground on Saturday, July 4, showcases key features of the planned highway, including multi-level interchanges, dual carriageways, weighbridges and urban connections along the corridor.

Among the sections highlighted in the model are the Lanet and Gilgil interchanges as well as Nakuru City, illustrating how the expressway is expected to improve connectivity between major towns along the Northern Corridor.

Upon completion, the Lanet interchange, connecting the main road from Nairobi to Nakuru ( A104 Highway ) with the road to Lanet and Dundori, is being rebuilt to reduce heavy traffic congestion and ease travel to key areas such as the Lanet military camp and the military airport.

📌 What You Need to Know

The interchange features a prominent, raised multi-lane highway designed to handle high-capacity traffic seamlessly above local traffic paths.

Also, the interchange will serve as a critical junction connecting the main highway corridor to neighbouring areas like Ol Kalou.

Underneath and alongside the main elevated deck, the model maps out a network of curved merging lanes and underpasses to allow vehicles to transition between local routes and the main summit highway without halting traffic flow.

At the heart of the city, the highway transforms into a multi-lane corridor running directly alongside the urban centre , ensuring transit traffic can pass through efficiently while maintaining accessible entry and exit points.

The model surrounds this section with representations of multi-story high-rise buildings and commercial blocks, illustrating how the modernised infrastructure will integrate tightly with Nakuru's growing city skyline and economic hubs.

Other sections of the highway, also highlighted in the model, include the Gilgil interchange and the weigh bridge that will also be transformed to a modern status.
