Kenyans seeking a review of their Social Health Authority (SHA) contributions can now submit an appeal through a simplified mobile phone process.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
In a notice on Tuesday, May 26, SHA announced that members who believe their contributions were inaccurately assessed can file an appeal by dialling *147# and following the prompts on the platform.
According to the authority, the process is designed to be quick, easy, and convenient as part of ongoing efforts to improve access to services under the government’s healthcare system.
Applicants are required to dial *147# on their phone , select the “Kenyan Citizen” option, enter their National ID number, and choose the “Contributions Appeal” option before following the instructions provided.
📌 What You Need to Know
The appeal process is expected to assist Kenyans who feel their monthly contribution rates do not accurately reflect their income levels or financial circumstances.
This comes amid concerns, particularly from informal sector workers and low-income earners who have questioned the affordability and calculation of the deductions.
To address this, SHA has been encouraging members to embrace digital platforms and USSD services to seek clarification on contribution assessments without visiting their physical offices.
The authority maintains that the digital system is aimed at enhancing efficiency and improving access to healthcare services across the country.
However, it is worth noting that the appeal mechanism is not intended to adjust or remove the mandatory 2.75 per cent monthly contribution deducted from an employee’s gross salary under the SHA system.
Instead, the process is meant to address cases where contributors believe their income assessment, categorisation, or contribution records may have been inaccurately captured.
