Some Kenyans seeking the Police Clearance Certificate will have to wait longer to get the critical document, despite the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) cutting the waiting time to about 24 hours.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

According to Huduma Kenya, despite the waiting period being slashed, some categories of Kenyans are still experiencing delays in receiving their Certificate of Good Conduct.

The clarification came after an applicant complained that they had been waiting for the certificate for a month, questioning why it had not been issued despite the 24-hour processing timeline that had been communicated to the public.

Responding to the query, Huduma Kenya said the 24-hour turnaround applies to instant Good Conduct applications currently being processed under the new system.

📌 What You Need to Know

For those who applied before the new system was rolled out, the agency stated that they will have to wait until processing is complete so that they can get the clearance certificate.

"The instant good conducts are those being applied now. Those that been applied before give it time for processing," Huduma Kenya said.

"Keep checking on your E-Citizen, when it's ready you will download it from there. You can also contact them directly through the contacts listed under the DCi on the E-Citizen," the agency added.

The clarification suggests that applicants who submitted their Good Conduct applications before the introduction or rollout of the instant processing system may not necessarily receive their certificates within the 24-hour timeline.

This comes weeks after DCI unveiled a new biometric system that significantly cut good conduct processing time to just 1 day.

On July 23, 2026, DCI Director General Amin Mohammed announced the changes during the launch of a new Multi-Biometric Identification System (MBIS). This platform integrates fingerprint, palmprint, and facial recognition into a single secure database, aimed at enhancing criminal investigations and improving service delivery.
