Huduma Kenya has outlined requirements for young Kenyans looking to access business financing through the Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF), which received an allocation of Ksh761 million in the 2026/27 Budget.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
According to Huduma, applicants must be Kenyan citizens aged between 18 and 34 years to benefit from the loans.
In addition, groups must have at least 70 per cent of their membership comprising young people and have leadership that is fully made up of youth.
“Kindly note that the YEDF in Kenya, applicants must be Kenyan citizens aged 18 to 34 years, at least 70% of the group must be youth, and group leadership must be 100% youth,” Huduma wrote in a comment online.
📌 What You Need to Know
Groups seeking funding must present a valid registration certificate from a recognised government office, such as the Registrar of Societies or Social Services Department, operate an active bank account and submit completed loan application forms.
Loan beneficiaries are required to sign loan repayment guarantees, with some higher-value loans requiring additional security depending on the amount borrowed.
Applicants must also complete mandatory entrepreneurship training before receiving funding through the programme.
YEDF group loans are interest-free but attract a one-time 5 per cent management fee, which is deducted from the approved amount before disbursement.
Huduma Kenya advised interested applicants to seek assistance at their nearest Huduma Centre, visit their sub-county youth office or use the official Youth Fund portal when applying.
Under the State Department for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy, the fund provides support to youth-owned enterprises through various loan products targeting startups, expanding businesses and individuals.
