Huduma Kenya has clarified the process that parents must follow to amend a child's birth certificate when the child was registered using the grandfather's name instead of the father's.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
While responding to a query, the agency revealed it is possible to make the changes; however, the procedure would depend on how the children's names and parental details are currently reflected on their birth certificates.
"It is possible to apply for an amendment of the children's names where they were registered using their grandfather's name instead of their father's name," Huduma Kenya said.
To make the amendments, a parent would be required to present the child's birth certificate to the civil registry office or at any Huduma Center.
📌 What You Need to Know
The agency will then review the birth certificate to determine the appropriate procedure and the required supporting documents.
Here, the registrar will check whether the issue is a wrong father's name or parental details or a broader name-registration issue.
Upon determination, the parent will be advised on the appropriate amendment application.
"The amendment process will depend on how the names and parental details are currently reflected on the birth certificates . We would need to review the birth certificates to establish the appropriate procedure and the supporting documents required," the agency explained.
"Provide a copy of the child's birth certificate, and we will advise you on the correct amendment process, the required documentation, and the applicable requirements," it added.
However, it is important to note that this amendment can only be made when there is sufficient evidence that a mistake was made, rather than changing it at will.
