The Senate County Public Accounts Committee (CPAC) has summoned Police Inspector General Douglas Kanja to appear before it following his failure to arrest Isiolo Governor r Abdi Guyo and present him before the Committee.

IG Kanja was supposed to appear before it on Monday, September 7, to explain why the Governor had not yet been arrested.

However, Kanja failed to appear at the Senate, sending a letter stating that he was scheduled to travel to China and therefore could not attend.

According to Kanja, he had formed a special team to arrest the Governor and present him before the Committee, but the Governor reportedly received intelligence and evaded arrest.

"Apparently, the Governor got wind of it and successfully evaded our dragnet," Kanja stated in the letter.

The Committee rejected the IG's explanation, demanding he appear in person before the Committee and explain himself.

"The wording in the letter is not useful at all. It is unfortunate that the impression he creates in the letter is that the NPS is clueless, ineffective and powerless," stated CPAC chair Moses Kajwang.   "The failure by the police to arrest such a known public figure is sending the wrong signal to the public. "We reiterate that the IG must appear before this Committee and explain why he has failed to arrest the Governor, he added.

Kanja was directed to arrest Governor Guyo and present him before the Committee after Guyo reportedly failed to honour the summons to appear before the Senate committee.

However, the police boss failed to produce the Governor as directed, prompting CPAC to ask Kanja to explain the reasons behind the failed arrest.

Governor Guyo is required to appear before the Senate to respond to audit queries concerning the utilisation of billions of shillings allocated to Isiolo County.
