The Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has unveiled a new political strategy aimed at uniting the opposition behind a single presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 General Election

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

Speaking after the monumental ruling after High Court upheld his impeachment case on June 9, Gachagua said his immediate focus has shifted from political rallies to consultations on selecting one opposition flagbearer.

He announced that after a weekend visit to Western Kenya he will retreat to his Wamunyoro home for 45 days of intensive meetings with supporters leaders and stakeholders.

" My supporters have now instructed me urgently to embark on the implementation of our joint strategic stance from the Wamunyoro residents for a period of 45 days," stated Gachagua.

📌 What You Need to Know

" After a tour of Western Kenya, where I want to go and support my deputy party leader, Cleo Malala, and Eugene Wamalwa over the weekend, from Monday, I'll come in Wamunyoro Village for 45 days to start exhaustive and extensive consultations with my supporters and opinion leaders and stakeholders on the formula of identifying a single presidential candidate to face President William Ruto."

According to Gachagua the consultations will help determine the best formula for identifying a single candidate to challenge President William Ruto in the August 10 2027 election.

The former Deputy President maintained that he remains eligible to contest for the presidency despite the ongoing legal battle saying appellate processes are yet to be exhausted.

He revealed that a 60-member caucus made up of elders, youth leaders professionals and clergy had directed him to prioritise unity talks over further political campaigns.

Gachagua further revealed his team had concluded that the work of mobilising Kenyans against President Ruto had largely been completed and that attention should now shift to candidate selection.

On the issue of an opposition candidate, Gachagua maintained that producing one person from the fleet of aspirants was the only viable path to defeating President Ruto and urged all opposition leaders to remain committed to that goal.
