You can run all the way to Kampala, lakini the long arm of the law will drag you back faster than a Rongai matatu on an open highway! The hit squad linked to the cold-blooded murder of respected clinical psychologist Dr Victoria Mutiso thought they had pulled off the ultimate vanishing act across the border. Kumbe, DCI sleuths and Interpol were playing chess while the suspects were chilling in high-end apartments in Uganda thinking they were untouchable.
The Trailing Prados And The Fatal Ambush
Thirty-five days ago, Nairobi woke up to the sickening news of Dr Mutiso’s brazen execution. A woman who dedicated her life to healing broken minds was gunned down without mercy after her taxi was intercepted in traffic. But whoever thought they committed a clean crime clearly forgot that Nairobi is blanketed in surveillance cameras, bana.
According to lead investigator Corporal Romana Oduor, the killers didn't just stumble on Dr Mutiso—they stalked her. Two fuel-guzzling Toyota Prados were on her tail. Samuel Karanja Gathoni, alias 'Wakili'—a man claiming to be a law student—was captured on crystal-clear CCTV driving a black Prado (KDE 400W) that trailed the doctor before a second Prado (KDH 600A) blocked her taxi for the fatal hit.
The Lang’ata Trail And The Kyanja Heights Raid
After the murder, Wakili thought he was playing it smooth. Detectives traced his tracks to his Lang'ata pad and watched his every step. Instead of staying put, the guy started shuffling between Nairobi and Kampala, completely clueless that DCI undercover agents were tracking his phone signals and border crossings with eagle eyes.
The moment he stepped back into Nairobi, detectives pounced! Busted with zero escape routes, Wakili sang like a canary and gave up the Kampala hideout. Flying across the border alongside Interpol, sleuths raided Kyanja Heights Flats in Nakawa suburb, Kampala. There, they cornered his accomplices: Pius Muiru Mbugua alias 'Headboy', and shockingly, Police Constable Collins Kiplangat Bett. Aki, imagine an active police officer in a deadly hit squad!
Handcuffed At Malaba And Handed 30 Days
Ugandan authorities wasted no time. After being presented at Buganda Road Court, the trio was processed for extradition and handed over to Kenyan police at the Malaba border. On Wednesday, the three stood before the Milimani Law Courts looking completely deflated, stripped of their Prado-driving arrogance.
The magistrate ruled that the trio is a certified flight risk, slamming them with 30 days behind bars to give detectives time to piece together who hired them, who pulled the trigger, and why Dr Mutiso was targeted.
💥 Why This Case Has Kenyans Shook
- A Rogue Cop In The Mix: Finding out an active Police Constable was holed up in a foreign hideout with murder suspects has sparked fresh fury over rogue elements in uniform.
- A 'Law Student' Driver: The chilling irony of Samuel Gathoni, nicknamed 'Wakili', allegedly using his wits to execute a hit and evade cross-border capture.
- Precision CCTV Work: Kenyans are finally seeing digital surveillance deliver results, proving that daylight hits in Nairobi won't stay unsolved for long.
The Jukwaa Take: When rogue cops and fake professionals turn Nairobi into an assassination playground, justice must not only catch up with them at the border—it must hit them with the full, unyielding weight of the law.
