The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary closure of yet another section of Mombasa Road at the Eastern Bypass junction to facilitate infrastructure works.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
A notice obtained by Kenyans.co.ke revealed the authority is planning to close the section for at least one week, from June 30 to July 7, 2026.
According to KeNHA, the closure is necessary to allow for the construction of a box culvert along the road section.
"The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) notifies the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) / Eastern Bypass Junction Ramp (Mombasa Bound Lanes) will be temporarily closed partially from Tuesday, June 30, 2026, to Tuesday, July 7, 2026," KeNHA said in a notice.
📌 What You Need to Know
Effectively, motorists travelling on the Mombasa-bound lanes and intending to join the Eastern Bypass using the ramp have been advised to use an alternative route during the construction period.
Motorists travelling along Mombasa Road intending to join the Eastern Bypass using the ramp after the overpass bridge will now be required to proceed past the closed ramp before turning left onto a designated diversion route as though they are heading to the visible Southfield Mall.
Drivers will then reconnect with the ramp further ahead to access the Eastern bypass.
KeNHA reiterated that the temporary traffic adjustment is aimed at ensuring the safe completion of works while maintaining traffic flow along the highway.
Drivers have also been advised to cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals who will be deployed on site to guide traffic and minimise disruptions.
Notably, the temporary closure is expected to worsen traffic congestion along Mombasa Road, particularly during peak hours when traffic volumes are at their highest. In recent weeks, many motorists have increasingly relied on the Eastern Bypass to connect to the Thika Superhighway and other parts of the city , resulting in frequent traffic build-ups even on ordinary days.
