The Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) has begun inspections of key roads in Kiambu County ahead of the anticipated El Niño rains expected in October.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
KeNHA is undertaking the inspection to identify sections requiring urgent maintenance and rehabilitation before the long rains.
According to the authority, the inspections cover the Muthaiga–Kiambu (B32), Kiambu–Limuru (B32), Ndenderu–Kamandura (B33) and Ruaka–Ndenderu–Gitaru (B115/B33) Western Bypass road sections.
The teams are focusing on the condition of carriageways, drainage systems, vegetation along the road reserves and road lighting, while identifying worn-out sections that require timely intervention.
📌 What You Need to Know
"To keep Kiambu's roads safe, reliable and well-maintained, KeNHA teams are inspecting key road sections to assess their condition, monitor ongoing maintenance works and identify areas requiring timely intervention," the authority stated.
In particular, KeNHA is inspecting carriageway maintenance and drainage improvement, areas it noted are critical to preventing further deterioration of road surfaces and ensuring the roads remain usable, particularly during adverse weather conditions.
KeNHA said the interventions are intended to strengthen road safety and the resilience of the road network while improving connectivity across Kiambu and neighbouring areas.
The roads covered by the inspection serve as important links between Nairobi, Kiambu, Limuru, Ruaka, Ndenderu and Gitaru, supporting daily commuter movement and commercial activity.
The inspections come as the authority moves to identify roads that are likely to be affected by the October, November, and December rains, following a warning of El Niño rains.
KeNHA had already stepped up drainage improvement works along major roads in Nairobi as part of preparations for the rains.
