Motorists using Waiyaki Way will face traffic disruptions for the next three months after the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced a partial closure of the road between Karuna Close and Westlands Roundabout from June 25.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
According to a public notice issued on June 18, the closure will affect the Nakuru-bound carriageway of the A8 highway, a key commuter route that carries thousands of vehicles into and out of Nairobi each day.
The restrictions will remain in force until September 25, 2026, as KeNHA undertakes works along the busy corridor.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) notifies the public that a section of Waiyaki Way (A8) Road between Karuna Close and Westlands Roundabout on the Nakuru-bound carriageway will be partially closed from Thursday, June 25, 2026, to Friday, September 25, 2026,” the notice stated.
📌 What You Need to Know
The closure is to facilitate the construction works for the existing pedestrian footbridge at Dunhill Towers, a structure that serves foot traffic crossing the busy highway.
Besides, a brand new footbridge is set to be constructed between Fogo Gaucho restaurant and QuickMart Westlands , adding a second safe crossing point along the stretch.
“This closure is to allow for extension works on the existing pedestrian footbridge at Dunhill Towers and the construction of the proposed Fogo Gaucho - QuickMart Westlands Footbridge,” stated KeNHA.
The two footbridge projects are aimed at improving pedestrian safety along a section of road that has long been a hotspot for dangerous road crossings.
The stretch between Karuna Close and Westlands Roundabout is one of Nairobi's busiest mobility corridors, linking the city centre to key arterial routes used daily by commuters, public transport, and freight.
Karuna Close feeds offices, apartments, and service businesses along the route, distributing local traffic away from the main highway and supporting last-mile connectivity into Westlands' fast-growing commercial district.
