Travelers arriving from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda will be required to fill health surveillance forms before being allowed to enter Kenya, the government has announced.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

According to a diplomatic communication from the Kenyan embassy in Angola, travelers originating in or transiting through the two countries will be subjected to enhanced health surveillance measures to prevent the importation of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) into Kenya.

At the same time, the government has also directed airports to conduct temperature screening of travelers to identify individuals with a fever above 38 degrees Celsius.

"The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kenya has advised that the following measures be undertaken at all airports to prevent importation of the disease and mitigate its spread," the communication stated.

📌 What You Need to Know

"Travellers originating from DRC or Uganda shall truthfully complete the Electronic Traveller Surveillance Form before disembarkation into Kenya," it added.

The move is a precautionary measure to prevent the Ebola virus from entering Kenya.

The notice indicates that airlines and other transport operators carrying passengers from the affected countries must provide travellers with access to the surveillance form before the commencement of their journeys, to ensure compliance upon arrival.

Additionally, transport operators will be required to provide passenger manifests and health declaration forms to Port Health Officers whenever requested.

The new requirements add to a series of measures the government, through the Ministry of Health , has undertaken to prevent the virus outbreak.

According to the ministry, any patient presenting with symptoms of the virus must be isolated upon entering the hospital, even while awaiting test results.
