Aki, before you leave the house in that light summer drip, hold up! The Kenya Meteorological Department has dropped a fresh five-day alert, and things are about to get wet and unusually frosty across most parts of the country. From sudden afternoon downpours in the city to bone-chilling night temperatures dropping as low as 6°C, here is how the skies are lining up to humble our outfit choices.

Nairobi, Central and Western on High Alert for Rains

If you thought dry spells were back for good, kumbe Mother Nature had other plans. Kenya Met warns that the heavens will open up across several parts of Central Kenya, Western, and the Rift Valley. In Nairobi and Kiambu, expect afternoon showers that could mess up your commute home just when traffic is peaking, running all the way through midweek alongside Meru, Nyeri, and Murang’a.

Over in the Lake Victoria basin and Western circuit—covering Kisumu, Kakamega, Bungoma, Vihiga, Busia, Siaya, Homa Bay, and Migori—afternoon rains will definitely be the order of the day. Meanwhile, the Rift Valley isn’t getting a pass either; counties like Uasin Gishu, Nandi, and Elgeyo Marakwet should prep for steady showers, with moderate downpours predicted early in the week.

Coast Mornings Wet, While Northern Kenya Catches Rain

For those living at the Coast, don’t let the sunny beach breeze fool you. Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu, and Taita Taveta are lined up for consistent morning drizzles before clearing up into warm afternoons. So, if you run early morning errands along the coastline, carrying a light raincoat wouldn't hurt bana.

Up North, areas like Garissa, Mandera, Marsabit, and Wajir—places we usually picture under relentless sun—are also scheduled to catch some unexpected afternoon showers across several days. It seems almost nobody is escaping this damp wave.

Teeth-Chattering Cold: Nyandarua and Samburu at 6°C!

Now, here is where it gets serious: the cold front is real. If you thought Nairobi’s night chill of 12°C was tough, spare a thought for residents in Nyandarua and Samburu, where the mercury is plunging to a brutal 6°C. That is legit fridge-level freezing, watu wajipange na double duvets!

Down in Machakos and Embu, night temps will hover between 10°C and 13°C, while Meru and Murang’a will see chilly lows of 11°C. Basically, this is not the week to misplace your trench coat or leave that thermos of ginger tea behind.
