The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces are set to deepen military cooperation through joint air force training and professional exchange programmes following high-level defence talks held in Nairobi.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
The discussions took place when Kenya Air Force Commander Major General Bernard Waliaula hosted Morocco's Defence, Military, Naval and Air Attaché to Kenya, Colonel Said Moustaid, in a meeting focused on expanding bilateral defence relations on Monday, June 29.
According to the KDF, the two sides agreed to pursue closer cooperation through joint training programmes, capacity building, and professional knowledge exchange between the Kenyan forces and the Royal Moroccan Air Force.
The planned cooperation is expected to give military personnel from both countries opportunities to share operational experience, strengthen technical skills and improve interoperability between the two air forces during future engagements.
📌 What You Need to Know
Major General Waliaula said Kenya values its growing defence partnership with Morocco , noting that increased military cooperation would strengthen professional ties and better prepare both countries to respond to evolving security challenges.
Colonel Moustaid assured Morocco's commitment to expanding defence relations with Kenya, expressing confidence that continued engagement would open more opportunities for cooperation in areas of mutual strategic interest.
The latest talks come as Kenya steps up efforts to modernise the KDF through partnerships with countries possessing advanced military capabilities.
Earlier this month, senior officials from the Treasury and the State Department for Defence opened discussions with a delegation from the United Arab Emirates on collaboration under the Kenya Defence Forces Modernisation Programme.
Those talks focused on strengthening KDF operational capabilities through advanced technology, institutional reforms and improved defence systems, building on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement signed between Kenya and the UAE in 2025.
Kenya has in recent years expanded its defence partnerships beyond the region, working with countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Egypt, South Korea, the Czech Republic, India and Turkey on areas ranging from military training and cybersecurity to defence manufacturing and special operations.
