The Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) has announced the rollout of new luxury passenger coaches expected to be fully operational by July 2026.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
During the presentation of the anticipated project on June 19, the Kenya Railways leadership stated that the new coaches are equipped with premium features, marking a significant upgrade from the current travel experience on Kenya's rail network.
Passengers travelling in the new coaches will enjoy onboard Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing them to stay connected throughout their journey.
Additionally, first-class dinner service will be available, with attendants serving meals and beverages directly to passengers throughout the travel..
📌 What You Need to Know
“This is what you expect in the next month. There's Wi-Fi. We will serve you a first-class dinner. Anything that you would like to be served here, you will be surrounded by it,” stated Kenya Railways
The seats in the coaches are designed to recline fully, and passengers will be provided with blankets, allowing them to sleep comfortably through the night.
Additionally, the seats appear generously spaced, offering more legroom than conventional rail seating. Each is fitted with an individual headrest and a rear-mounted personal entertainment screen embedded in the seatback, giving passengers direct access to onboard entertainment throughout the journey.
Passengers will also have access to onboard bathing facilities, allowing them to freshen up before heading to work or continuing with their day upon arrival.
Designed to mirror the comfort of the SGR Premium Class, the new first-class coaches are expected to deliver an ultra-luxurious, business-class-style travel experience similar to that found on commercial airlines.
Their introduction comes just days after Kenya Railways began gradually rolling out newer economy coaches as part of efforts to enhance passenger comfort and improve service delivery.
