Kenya Railways Managing Director Philip Mainga on Thursday, October 8, said construction was already underway in Narok and other sections of the route, with the contractor currently doing excavation works.

Addressing the press in Narok, Mainga said by June next year, most aspects of the project, which covers six counties, will have been completed, paving the way for its use.

“We expect that by June next year we will be able to deliver most of the area for this project. This is a two-year project, and we expect it to proceed and we will be completing it in good time,” Mainga said.

📌 What You Need to Know

“Anybody who is saying anything about SGR, you can see for yourselves, work is ongoing in Narok, this is happening in Bomet, this is happening in Kericho, and this is happening in Kisumu,” he added.

Mainga made the remarks during an inspection of construction works in Narok , where he said a major SGR station was being built on about 50 acres of land.

He noted that the railway line will have major stations in Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Nyamira and Kisumu, with works already underway on the various railway routes for fast completion.

On land acquisition, Mainga said the government had set aside Ksh25 billion to compensate Project Affected Persons along the railway route.

He said Kenya Railways had already registered several affected people in Narok and was working with the National Land Commission to facilitate land acquisition and compensation.

“We have registered a lot of people for the project. And we have set a budget aside. We have given them about Ksh25 billion. We will go to compensation. We will go to compensate the project-affected persons,” he said.
