Kenya Railways has unveiled a new passenger train service on the Nairobi-Gilgil-Ol Kalou-Nyahururu railway line that is set to be reopened after decades of not being in operation.

In an announcement made by the government under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, Kenya Railways confirmed that the new service will be named the "Hustler Express" and will be launched on Tuesday, June 2.

According to the information shared on UDA social platforms, the railway line will connect Nairobi, Gilgil, Ol Kalou, and Nyahururu.

"Are you ready for the unveiling of the Hustler Express Train plying the Nairobi Gilgil Ol Kalou Nyahururu route? Tuesday, June 2 2026, is the date," UDA announced.

The announcement follows an earlier announcement by Kenya Railways stating that the company was planning to reopen the Gilgil-Nyahurur line from June this year.

The latest announcement means that the 78-kilometre railway line will be officially launched for reopening on Tuesday, June 2, and the passenger train service that will be operating along the route from Nairobi will be called the Hustler Express.

According to the ruling party, the name stems from the government's bottom-up economic transformation agenda (BETA) in motion, opening up regions, boosting trade, creating jobs and connecting people to opportunity.

"This is not just a train launch, it is the BETA agenda in motion opening up regions, boosting trade, creating jobs and connecting people to opportunity," it added.

President William Ruto, during his 2022 presidential campaign, was referred to as "Hustler" and on many occasions stated that his government will be the "Hustler's Government".

By choosing the name " Hustler " for the passenger train, the government is quietly leaving a mark on the lives of the people that will remain instilled with the public long after the transition.
