Kenyans seeking to travel to the Republic of Congo will now access the country easily after the nation’s President, Denis Sassou Nguesso, announced visa-free entry for all African countries.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

The announcement made on Monday, May 25, during the Africa Day celebrations, will see all African travelers move in and out of the Central African country easily without the traditional requirement of a visa.

According to the announcement, the programme will begin in January 2027 as part of efforts to boost African unity, intra-African trade, and economic cooperation between African countries.

The decision effectively places the Republic of the Congo among a group of African countries opening their borders to fellow Africans in line with Pan-African integration goals.

📌 What You Need to Know

In his address, Sassou-Nguesso urged African countries to move beyond what he termed as narrow nationalism and focus on collective development priorities, including transport connectivity, energy access, and infrastructure investment, according to Business Insider Africa.

The new measure allows citizens from across the continent to enter Congo using their national passports without applying for a visa before travelling.

Congo now adds to the increasing number of African countries that have scrapped the visa requirement as many countries move to expand trade and tourism within the continent.

Earlier, the Republic of Togo also announced visa-free entrance for all African travelers seeking to stay in the West African country for up to 30 days.

However, travelers will still be required to complete an online travel declaration through the Togo government’s website at least 24 hours before arrival in order to obtain a travel document for border clearance.

The move by Congo to scrap the requirement means Kenyans seeking to visit the country for tourism, trade, or education will now travel more easily, as the two nations continue to strengthen their diplomatic ties.
