Kenyans remain on alert after the United States government issued new boarding restrictions for travellers linked to the ongoing Ebola outbreak.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

According to a notice obtained by Kenyans.co.ke , the Department of State said travellers who have been in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) within 21 days will not be allowed to board flights to the U.S.

“All travelers who have been in the DRC within 21 days of their flight will not be allowed to board commercial flights with U.S. destinations,” the notice stated.

In addition, the restrictions apply to passengers whose journey included a stop in the DRC, even if they remained on the aircraft.

📌 What You Need to Know

The new rules cover both U.S. citizens and foreign nationals, so Kenyans travelling to the U.S. from or through the affected countries will need to check their routes and recent travel history against the restrictions before flying.

Travellers who have recently been in Uganda or South Sudan face separate measures depending on their nationality and travel status.

Foreign nationals, including U.S. lawful permanent residents and their family members, must have spent at least 21 days outside Uganda or South Sudan before boarding flights to the U.S.

U.S. citizens and nationals who have been in Uganda or South Sudan, but not the DRC, must enter America through one of four designated airports for health screening, including Washington Dulles, Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson, Houston George Bush Intercontinental and New York John F. Kennedy.

The U.S. government said the measures are intended to reduce the risk of Ebola being introduced into the country through international travel.

Travellers affected by the restrictions have been warned that connecting through another country could also lead to delays, cancelled flights or additional entry requirements .
