Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced that the eight County Aggregation and Industrial Parks (CAIPs)  will be operational before the end of 2026, revealing products that will be manufactured at the parks.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

Kindiki said that the government has received the final technical preparedness reports for the first cohort of eight CAIPs that are being equipped for operationalisation.

According to the DP, each of the eight counties will initially focus on value addition based on products that are widely available in the respective regions.

For instance,  Meru and Embu counties will begin with macadamia value addition, while Kirinyaga will focus on the manufacture of tomato paste.

📌 What You Need to Know

"Received the final technical preparedness reports of the first cohort of 8 County Aggregation and Industrial Parks(CAIPs) being equipped for operationalisation before year-end," Kindiki stated on Wednesday, September 2.

In Wajir, the CAIP will process leather and camel milk, reflecting the county's livestock-based economy. Kisii will manufacture avocado oil, while Busia will focus on cassava starch.

Garissa will process sunflower oil, with Migori set to manufacture fish feed as part of the first phase of operations.

According to the DP, the frameworks for attracting and involving private-sector investors and operators are also being finalised.

The government has been rolling out CAIPs across counties as part of efforts to strengthen manufacturing, support small-scale producers and stimulate economic activity outside major urban centres.

The move comes days after the eight counties were identified as the first ones to get the industrial parks under the government's Ksh2.5 billion programme.
