The Kenya Film Classification and Licensing Board (KFCB) has officially launched its licensing services on eCitizen, giving filmmakers and industry players a much simpler way to obtain certification.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

The film board, through a statement seen by  Kenyans.co.ke   on July 6, says the move is part of its wider push to automate services and make life easier for film practitioners across the country.

Filmmakers, film agents, distributors, and exhibitors can now apply for their licenses directly online via the Technical Management System (TMS) at  tms.kfcb.go.ke , as well as the eCitizen portal at  kfcb.ecitizen.go.ke .

“KFCB continues to automate and digitise its services to enhance service delivery and promote ease-of-doing business for film practitioners and other industry stakeholders. This has made the process of obtaining licences from the Board more efficient, convenient, and cost-effective for filmmakers, film agents, exhibitors, and distributors,” stated KFCB.

📌 What You Need to Know

“Stakeholders can apply for licences conveniently at the click of a button through the Board’s Technical Management System (TMS) via    tms.kfcb.go.ke . Further, please access our eCitizen services through  kfcb.ecitizen.go.ke .”

According to KFCB, the shift is meant to boost service delivery and promote ease of doing business within Kenya's growing film and audio-visual industry.

This means anyone in the industry, whether a local producer or an international production crew, can process their paperwork from wherever they are, at any time.

KFCB licenses fall under three main categories: Filmmaker, Distributor, and Exhibitor, each covering different players within the audio-visual and broadcasting sector in Kenya.

Filmmaker licenses cover producers, agents, a nd filming permits, distributor licenses target movie shops and online platforms, while exhibitor licenses apply to cinemas, video shows, and gaming outlets.

Getting a KFCB license now starts with creating an account on the eCitizen platform, then choosing the right license category to apply under.
