Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has directed all ministries, state departments and agencies to fully embrace the eCitizen platform as the government moves to strengthen digital service delivery and improve efficiency across the public sector.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
Speaking after chairing a working meeting on behalf of President William Ruto on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, Kindiki said the government is working to ensure 100 per cent compliance with the platform while addressing operational challenges to enhance service delivery.
The meeting focused on streamlining eCitizen operations, integrating all government institutions into the platform, and ensuring citizens can seamlessly access public services online.
The directive comes as the government's digitisation programme continues to record significant gains.
📌 What You Need to Know
According to Kindiki, annual revenue collected through the eCitizen platform has increased from Ksh20 billion in 2022 to Ksh539 billion this year, a rise the government attributes to the digitisation of services and efforts to seal revenue leakages.
He added that 16.5 million adult Kenyans now make payments for government services digitally through the platform.
"The government's digitisation programme introduced in 2023 has borne efficiency in service delivery and sealed loopholes for revenue leakages," Kindiki said.
Additionally, the Deputy President said the government is committed to resolving operational challenges affecting the platform while ensuring all ministries, state departments and agencies comply with the digital system.
The latest directive forms part of the government's broader digital transformation agenda, which seeks to centralise public services through eCitizen, improve accountability , simplify access to government services and strengthen revenue collection.
In recent years, the government has rolled out several digital systems, including eCitizen, SHA's digital health platform, electronic logbooks for motor vehicle ownership, digital national ID services, and the digitisation of birth certificate applications and processing.
