The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced a 12-hour maintenance shutdown of its Integrated Customs Management System (iCMS), temporarily affecting cargo clearance services.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
In a notice issued on Saturday, September 5, KRA said the scheduled maintenance will run from 6am to 6pm on Sunday, September 6.
“Please be advised that there will be a scheduled maintenance of iCMS from Sunday 6th September, 2026, 6:00 AM to Sunday 6th September, 2026, 6:00PM,” the authority stated.
During the maintenance period, the iCMS platform will temporarily suspend key customs processes, including the declaration and clearance of imported and exported goods.
📌 What You Need to Know
Several business activities could be affected by the downtime, given that the Port of Mombasa handles about 124,500 metric tonnes of cargo daily.
Thus, traders and other users of the system are advised to make arrangements to minimise disruption to their operations.
During previous maintenance exercises, KRA indicated that once services resumed, priority would be given to businesses handling perishable and other time-sensitive goods to minimise spoilage and delays in delivery.
The authority did not attribute the scheduled maintenance to any technical failures, with routine maintenance generally undertaken to maintain and improve the performance and reliability of digital systems for users.
Maintenance is also expected to strengthen the platform’s security and reduce the likelihood of technical problems affecting customs operations in the future.
KRA apologised for the temporary disruption and asked importers, exporters, clearing agents and other stakeholders to cooperate as the exercise is carried out.
