The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced that its system is facing a downtime affecting taxpayers rushing to file for the Value Added Tax (VAT) returns.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
In a notice on Wednesday, September 16, KRA confirmed that its systems were experiencing downtime and advised users to try accessing the services again later.
"Please note we currently are experiencing a system downtime, kindly try again later. Apologies for the inconvenience," KRA responded.
Those affected are taxpayers filing for the Value Added Tax (VAT) who were unable to file for returns ahead of the September 20 deadline.
📌 What You Need to Know
Several taxpayers complained about difficulties accessing the KRA services, prompting the tax authority to acknowledge the technical disruption.
"iTax system not working and 20th deadline is approaching," one taxpayer lamented.
"KRA! We are unable to file returns because your site is not loading. Frustrated to file and pay," another one added.
The taxpayers also complained that they could not access the system for days now, even as the deadline approaches.
Although the authority did not reveal when the system would be back, it said its team was escalating the matter and was working to resolve it.
Taxpayers were urged to try filing for their returns later as efforts to restore the systems continue.
