The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has responded to growing complaints over delays and intermittent access to its iTax portal as thousands of Kenyans race against time to file their annual tax returns ahead of the June 30 deadline.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

The concerns emerged after several taxpayers reported difficulties accessing their iTax accounts, with some saying the website was not loading, while others could not receive the One-Time Passwords (OTPs) required to log in.

"The KRA system has been down for the last 24 hours. The war on business is being waged from multiple angles," one taxpayer complained.

Another user added, "KRA, I've tried accessing my account this week in vain. No OTP, the website not loading. What's up? Please open it."

📌 What You Need to Know

Responding to the complaints, KRA assured taxpayers that the technical issues had been resolved.

"Hello, Kindly note that the issue has been resolved and iTax is working seamlessly," KRA responded.

The latest concerns come at a critical period when thousands of taxpayers are making last-minute submissions before the annual filing window closes on June 30, often resulting in heavy traffic on the tax portal.

The portal challenges also come barely two days after KRA acknowledged another technical hitch involving missing Pay As You Earn (PAYE) credits for November and December 2025 in some taxpayers' ledger accounts.

At the time, KRA admitted that some PAYE entries had not been reflected in its system but assured taxpayers that the issue was being addressed and should not stop them from filing their annual returns.

The tax authority explained that once the affected ledger accounts are updated, the missing PAYE credits will automatically reflect without requiring taxpayers to refile their returns.
