The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has cautioned members of the public against scammers demanding money from people seeking employment at the agency.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

In a notice issued on Friday, September 18, KRA clarified that no payment is required at any point during its recruitment process.

“Remember: KRA does not charge any fee at any stage of the recruitment process,” the authority stated in the notice.

The warning follows the circulation of a fake appointment letter purporting to confirm applicants had secured positions at the authority.

📌 What You Need to Know

KRA flagged the fraudulent letter, which asked successful candidates to pay Ksh4,500 to complete the process, directing them to send the money to a number presented as belonging to a recruitment officer.

According to the authority, the claims that the money would cover recruitment processing, staff identification cards, medical clearance, employment documents, training and placement were false.

The fake document used KRA’s official branding and carried a reference number and date in an attempt to appear like an official employment communication.

This comes after KRA had also warned the public in May about a fake appointment letter that falsely offered employment in its marketing department.

The authority clarified that the letter was not genuine despite using an official-looking letterhead and references to internal procedures.

In Friday’s notice, the authority emphasised that its vacant positions are only advertised and processed through its official communication channels , including its careers website, as well as selected media and authorised consultants.
