The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has responded to taxpayers reporting difficulties filing their July Value Added Tax (VAT) returns on the iTax platform, days before the monthly deadline.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
Some taxpayers have reported system errors while attempting to file their returns, while others say July sales and purchase invoices are yet to appear on the pre-populated VAT return sections on iTax.
The concerns come ahead of the August 20 deadline for filing and paying VAT for transactions made in July, putting pressure on businesses that are yet to complete their submissions.
One taxpayer who contacted KRA on Thursday reported receiving a system error while attempting to file VAT returns through iTax and sought clarification on whether the platform was experiencing technical problems.
📌 What You Need to Know
In response, KRA acknowledged the problem, describing it as a network fluctuation and advising the taxpayer to try using a different browser or wait before making another attempt.
The tax authority also cautioned taxpayers about uploading return files to ensure the files had been properly validated before submitting them through the system.
The latest complaint follows earlier concerns raised this week over the delayed appearance of July sales and purchase invoices in the auto-populated VAT returns on iTax .
Taxpayers had asked KRA how they should proceed with their filings where purchases and sales had not appeared, noting that the deadline was approaching while the issue remained unresolved.
KRA responded that some invoices had already been transmitted to the system, but the process of completing the transmission was still underway, asking taxpayers to allow time for the process to be finalised.
Similar concerns have been raised over July eTIMS purchase invoices that had not appeared on the corresponding pre-populated sections of iTax, with taxpayers seeking an alternative way to complete their VAT returns.
