The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has urged employers to file and pay their Pay As You Earn (PAYE) returns before the October 9, 2026 deadline.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
In a notice issued on Monday, October 5, the authority encouraged employers to handle their PAYE obligations early and avoid a last-minute rush.
KRA advised employers to submit their returns and make the required payments in good time, following previous reports of taxpayers experiencing difficulties accessing some of its online services.
The reminder comes as some employers continue to report challenges filing their August PAYE returns, with taxpayers seeking clarity on when the technical issues affecting the process will be resolved.
📌 What You Need to Know
KRA acknowledged the complaints and said it was working to resolve the issue.
“Hi, kindly be patient as we are working to resolve the issue,” KRA said in response to taxpayers who reported difficulties filing their returns.
The latest reminder gives employers a few days to ensure they have completed their PAYE obligations by October 9 to avoid waiting until the final day to submit their returns and make payments.
PAYE is a tax deducted by employers from employees' salaries and remitted to KRA, and employers are therefore responsible for filing the monthly returns and paying the tax collected within the prescribed deadline.
Failure to meet the deadline will lead to taxpayer penalties and interest making early filing important to employers to avoid cases where they may encounter technical or other challenges during the process.
In addition the PAYE deadline comes at a time when KRA is continuing to introduce measures aimed at making it easier for taxpayers to settle their outstanding tax obligations.
