The Kenya Revenue Authority has unveiled a simplified, step-by-step guide to help taxpayers file their returns through iTax and make payments through mobile money, even as the June 30 timeline nears.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
In a guide on Tuesday, May 19, KRA outlined the process taxpayers should follow to safely pay their taxes through the iTax portal and complete their payments via mobile money without falling victim to scams.
The clarification came after KRA noted that taxpayers might fall victim to fraud by making payments to non-existent or fraudulently created bill or account numbers.
The authority emphasised that any other paybill number being circulated for tax payments is a scam and urged the public to remain vigilant against fraudsters targeting unsuspecting taxpayers.
📌 What You Need to Know
"Pay Your Taxes via mobile money in 4 Easy Steps! Use the paybill 222 222. Anything else is a scam," KRA stated.
According to the authority, taxpayers are required to first log in to the iTax portal using their kra PIN and password.
Once logged in, users must initiate a payment registration in the payments section before entering the relevant tax details, including tax head, tax sub-head, payment type, and tax period.
After submitting the details, the system generates a Payment Registration Slip that contains the required account number for payment.
The taxman directs taxpayers to pay via Paybill number 222222, using the payment registration number as the account number.
It is worth noting that payments can also be made at banks using printed slips, but due to technological advancements and the evolution of mobile money services, t axpayers no longer need to visit banks to make tax payments.
