The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has called on businesses to file their tax returns on time ahead of the August 20 deadline.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

In a notice on Monday, August 17, KRA urged the taxpayers to ensure they file their returns on time to remain compliant with their tax obligations and avoid penalties.

According to the taxman, returns that are due on August 20 include Value Added Tax (VAT), Excise Returns, Turnover Tax (TOT), Monthly Rental Income Tax (MRI) and VAT on Digital Marketplace Supply.

"Make sure umefile returns za Value Added Tax, Excise Returns, Turnover Tax, Monthly Rental Income Tax, and VAT on Digital Marketplace Supply on or before August 20," KRA stated.

📌 What You Need to Know

KRA encouraged taxpayers affected by the listed tax obligations to complete their filings before the deadline.

To file for the returns, taxpayers are required to log into their iTax accounts and select the type of tax return they wish to file.

The reminder comes even as several taxpayers continue to face difficulties in filing their returns, citing iTax system errors.

Some taxpayers h ave reported system errors while attempting to file their returns, while others say July sales and purchase invoices are yet to appear on the pre-populated VAT return sections on iTax.

However, KRA attributed the problem to a network fluctuation, asking Kenyans to try a different network, use a different browser or wait before making another attempt.

"Kindly note that this is a network fluctuation error. Try using a different browser or give it some time before you can try again," the authority said.
