The National Treasury has revealed that Sweden has allocated an estimated Ksh545 million to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to strengthen its revenue collection systems.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

The revelation was made following a meeting between Treasury Principal Secretary Chris Kiptoo and Sweden’s Ambassador to Kenya, Håkan Åkesson, on Wednesday, October 7.

According to Treasury, the support covers the Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence Programme, with the financial contribution channelled through the Public Financial Management (PFM) Reform Secretariat at the Treasury.

“Sweden is also supporting the Kenya Revenue Authority to modernise revenue collection through the Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence Programme under the Public Finance Management reforms, at an estimated cost of Ksh 545 million,” Kiptoo stated.

📌 What You Need to Know

The programme is designed to bring together information from multiple internal and external sources used by KRA.

It is intended to provide a consolidated view of individual taxpayers to support analysis of tax compliance risks.

In addition, the system will help identify risk groups and areas that require attention in tax administration.

The programme is also linked to institutional cooperation between the Swedish Tax Agency and KRA, with Sweden providing technical advice, support and capacity development.

The funding forms part of broader cooperation between Kenya and Sweden, with discussions also covering areas including agriculture, energy and environmental sustainability.

“We discussed the excellent relations between Sweden and Kenya and explored future opportunities to deepen our cooperation. Looking forward to continuing our strong partnership for sustainable growth and development,” Åkesson said.
