The Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO) has called on police authorities to account for the whereabouts of a clinical officer employed by the Kajiado County Government.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
In a statement issued on Thursday, August 27, KUCO General Secretary and CEO Gibore Maroah said the union had received reports that Christin Wanjiru was arrested and taken to Kitengela Police Station.
According to the union, she was allegedly held at the station without being promptly informed of the reason for her arrest.
“For purposes of public record, accountability and pursuit of justice, the KUCO wishes to bring to the attention of Kenyans and relevant State and human-rights institutions the disturbing circumstances surrounding the reported arrest and subsequent disappearance from known police custody of Christin Wanjiru, a clinical officer serving under the County Government of Kajiado,” the statement read.
📌 What You Need to Know
KUCO said it later received reports that Wanjiru was taken from the police station and placed in an unofficial Subaru vehicle.
The union said her destination and current whereabouts were not known at the time of the statement.
“More disturbing, the Union subsequently received information that she was removed from Kitengela Police Station and picked up in the Subaru vehicle appearing in the attached photograph,” the statement added.
Consequently, KUCO has asked the Officer Commanding Station at Kitengela to provide details of the circumstances surrounding her arrest and removal from the station.
Among the information sought is whether her detention was officially recorded, who arrested her and who authorised her removal from the station.
The union also wants authorities to clarify whether she was released or transferred, who received her and where she was taken.
