The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has confirmed that the long-awaited dualling of the Magadi Road connecting residents of Ong'ata Rongai and Kiserian to Langata Road remains on course despite the completion of recent traffic improvement works at Galleria.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
The clarification came after KURA shared an update on the completed road works around the Galleria area and on the entire road section all the way to Rongai, highlighting improvements aimed at easing traffic congestion for motorists using the busy corridor.
Following the update, residents have been seeking clarification from the authority, asking whether the recently completed works meant plans to dual the entire highway had been shelved.
"Does it mean that the dualling will no longer be done?" one resident asked.
📌 What You Need to Know
In response, KURA assured commuters that the dual carriageway project was still planned, explaining that the recently completed works were only an interim measure to improve traffic flow.
"It'll happen. This was just a quick measure to ease traffic jams at Galleria, but eventually it will be dualled," KURA responded.
The confirmation comes weeks after President William Ruto announced that the government would upgrade the Rongai-Kiserian road into a dual carriageway to tackle chronic traffic congestion along the route.
Speaking during a fundraiser in Kiserian in June, the President directed the Ministry of Roads and Transport to place the project under the National Infrastructure Fund (NIF), which will finance its construction.
Ruto acknowledged that motorists continue to face severe traffic congestion, particularly between Bomas of Kenya, Ongata Rongai and Kiserian, saying the expansion was intended to provide a lasting solution.
He also revealed that feasibility studies and technical assessments were already underway to guide the implementation of the project before construction began.
