The Kenya Urban Road Authority (KURA) has confirmed the commencement of construction of the planned Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line 5.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

Responding to concerns about whether the project has started, KURA said the contractor has already arrived at the proposed site and is mobilizing and clearing the area.

"The contractor is already on site mobilizing and clearing the corridor," KURA stated.

The announcement followed concerns among sections of the public seeking to understand the project's progress since the signing of the Establishment of BRT Line 5 Project in March 2026.

📌 What You Need to Know

According to the authority, the BRT Line 5 corridor will run along Outer Ring Road, specifically from Allsops to Taj Mall.

It is expected to enhance mobility, reduce traffic congestion, shorten commuters' travel time, and improve connectivity within the Nairobi Metropolitan region.

The project has experienced delays before, raising questions about whether the new commitment signed in March would be fast-paced.

However, according to KURA, the contractor is already on site and construction in the area is expected to commence immediately after the site is cleared.

The announcement comes weeks after Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja announced funding f or all five BRT lines across Nairobi.

The five planned BRT corridors will cover major routes across Nairobi and its outskirts. Line 1, Ndovu, will run from Limuru through Kangemi and the CBD to Imara Daima, Athi River and Kitengela. In contrast, Line 2, Simba, will link Rongai to the CBD, Ruiru, Thika and Kenol.
