According to the authority, the planned project is aimed at improving traffic circulation and enhancing road capacity for motorists around the facilities, which are anticipating increased activity in the near future.
KURA’s proposal is outlined in an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) report obtained by this publication, which has been submitted to the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) for review.
The proposal indicated that the road will traverse Dagoretti South, Kibra, and Lang’ata within Nairobi County.

“The Proponent, Kenya Urban Roads Authority, proposes to construct an approximately 18.9 km road network to enhance traffic circulation and capacity in support of the Talanta Sports City Stadium and Bomas International Convention Centre (BICC) traversing Dagoretti South, Kibra, and Lang’ata Constituencies in Nairobi City County,” the report read.
The project comes as the country intensifies preparations for hosting next year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), set to begin on June 19, 2027.
Talanta stadium’s completion is yet to be confirmed , however, Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya previously announced that it was expected to be ready by the end of July.
KURA’s planned works will focus on improving access and traffic management around the stadium and the neighbouring BICC, which is also under construction.
The report identified potential impacts from the project, including vegetation clearance, disturbance to wildlife habitats, increased noise, air pollution, waste generation, and pressure on water resources during construction.
To address these concerns, KURA has proposed measures including protecting trees that do not require removal, undertaking compensatory tree planting, restoring affected areas and working with relevant agencies on environmental conservation.
