The National Land Commission (NLC) has added two parcels in Kajiado County to the list of land targeted for compulsory acquisition for the Nairobi-Naivasha Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) Phase 2A project.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
The Commission said the additional acquisition will be undertaken on behalf of the Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) as part of a supplementary process to secure land required for construction of the railway project.
According to a Gazette Notice dated July 30, 2026, the two parcels are located in Ntarshart, Kajiado County, and have been included in the acquisition schedule.
The parcels identified are Kajiado/Ntarshart/30384 and Kajiado/Ntarshart/30385, with the latter measuring approximately 6.62 hectares.
📌 What You Need to Know
The notice also provides for the deletion of Kajiado/Ntarshart/1651, which had previously been included in the acquisition schedule and measures approximately 10.34 hectares.
The latest changes form part of a supplementary land acquisition process that follows several earlier Gazette notices issued between 2020 and 2024 concerning land required for the Nairobi-Naivasha SGR Phase 2A project.
The development could also ease pressure on roads along the Nairobi-Kajiado corridor by providing an alternative rail transport option for passengers and goods, potentially helping to reduce congestion on some of the busy routes and lowering the risk of accidents associated with heavy traffic.
The NLC has now invited people with an interest or claim in the affected parcels to participate in an inquiry into the proposed compulsory acquisition. The inquiry will consider matters relating to ownership of the affected land , compensation and any other issues that interested parties may wish to raise concerning the acquisition.
Affected landowners and other interested persons have been directed to submit written claims for compensation before the inquiry, together with copies of their identification cards, PIN certificates, land ownership documents and bank account details.
The Commission has also made plans of the affected land available for inspection at its offices at Ardhi House in Nairobi and the NLC County Coordinator’s Office in Kajiado County during official working hours.
