📋 Breaking It Down
A city lawyer has won a claim against a dry cleaner after a three-piece Italian suit he entrusted to the company for dry-cleaning was returned with dark patches and loose threads.
The Small Claims Court awarded lawyer Emmanuel Mumia Sh114,616.36, being the proved value of the damaged suit, after finding that he had established a loss arising from the condition of the garments after cleaning.
Mr Mumia had initially sought Sh183,826.66, equivalent to £1,064.95, against Lorenzo Dry Cleaners Ltd, as the value of his navy blue, pin-striped three-piece suit.

The court found that the garments, including the suit, were delivered to Lorenzo on March 16 and returned to Mumia on March 23.
Lorenzo's intake record described the garments as having only "ordinary dirt and lint."
Mr Mumia told the court that upon inspecting the suit, he found three dark patches of discolouration on the jacket and loose threads on the right sleeve.
He maintained that he had not worn the suit after it was returned and that the dry-cleaning tags were still attached when he discovered the damage.
Messages presented in court showed that Lorenzo apologised after being notified of the problem. The company collected the jacket for assessment and, over the following days, told Mumia it was "trying to work on it".
