The Linda Mwananchi brigade has linked a National Intelligence Service (NIS) officer to the chaos that rocked their Homa Bay County rally on Sunday, August 16.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
In a statement issued on Monday, the outfit claimed their convoy was ambushed by armed goons who had been ferried in from Kisumu, Siaya, Migori, Kisii, and Nairobi counties to cause havoc.
They further revealed that their supporters apprehended a man travelling in an unmarked black Toyota Prado alongside the attackers in Nyandiwa, and he identified himself as an NIS officer.
According to the outfit, his phone was seized at the scene, after which the team received numerous calls from senior police officers demanding its return. Linda Mwananchi said the calls raise questions about who was behind the chaos.
📌 What You Need to Know
“ In Nyandiwa, our supporters apprehended an individual who was travelling with some of the attackers in an unmarked black Toyota Prado. The circumstances surrounding his presence were consistent with the coordination of the individuals deployed against us,” stated Linda Mwananchi.
“ Upon questioning, the individual identified himself as an officer of the National Intelligence Service. His mobile phone was taken into our custody and remains in our possession.”
Beyond the NIS link, Linda Mwananchi held both the National Police Service (NPS) and the National Intelligence Service (NIS) accountable for how their officers conducted themselves during the tour.
They called on the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), and the Director General of the NIS, Noordin Haji, to explain the presence and coordination role their personnel played in Homa Bay County that day.
Despite the unfortunate turn of events, they also took time to appreciate a section of police officers who chose duty over disorder, singling out officers stationed in Nyandiwa and Sindo police stations for refusing to join in the disruption of their rallies, despite the pressure around them.
On the political front, Linda Mwananchi turned its attention to Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga and the Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma over the chaos witnessed in the county.
