Have you ever thought of playing pool using your foot? It sounds improbable, but for 47-year-old James Njagi, his foot became the tool that helped him rebuild his life after a devastating accident changed everything.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

Njagi was a professional truck driver when, on August 28, 2009, he got into a nasty accident while transporting cargo weighing over 64,800 kilogrammes from Mombasa to Kitui.

On that fateful day, Njagi lost control of his truck, which fell on one side and started skidding for about 50 metres.

“When I noticed I was in an accident, I closed my eyes, and I screamed, ‘Ohh my Jesus’,” he recalls, adding that he kept his eyes closed as he awaited his fate.

📌 What You Need to Know

When he regained consciousness, he realised one of his arms was badly injured.

With the help of first responders, Njagi held onto his left arm, which was detaching from his body just above the elbow.

He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors amputated his left arm.

For about three years after the accident, Njagi struggled with self-doubt and low self-esteem.

“After my operation, I was traumatised. Whenever I stepped outside my house to go to the shop, neighbourhood children would scream, ‘He has no arm,’ which added to my low self-esteem,” he says.

In 2011, he returned to a game he had always enjoyed, pool. There was, however, one major challenge. He now had only one arm.
