🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

Karua died on the evening of Sunday, September 27, at his home in Kirinyaga County.

According to a statement by Martha, she spent the better part of Sunday with her father, not knowing that that would be he last time they were meeting.

"It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved father, Mwalimu Jackson Karua," Karua stated.

📌 What You Need to Know

"Earlier today, I went to Kirinyaga to visit my father. My siblings and I spent time with him and sang his favourite gospel hymn, never knowing it would be our last song together," she added.

However, on her way back to Nairobi, the PLP leader said she received the news of the passing of her father, describing the moment as one of the toughest moments of her life.

"There is never really an age at which you are prepared to say goodbye to someone who has been part of your life from the very beginning," Karua said.

She described the final moments with him as a gift, saying she was grateful that the family had the opportunity to sit beside him before his death.

Karua described her father as one of her strongest supporters throughout her life, saying he believed in her from her school days, through her legal career and during her years in public service.

She remembered him as a principled teacher who valued character, education and doing what was right.
