Jubilee Party Deputy Leader Fred Matiang’i has called on President William Ruto to establish a commission of inquiry into the discovery of bodies in River Yala, insisting that he is ready to give his account of events.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
Matiang’i, who was serving as Interior Cabinet Secretary when 36 bodies were discovered in River Yala between 2021 and 2022, said he has nothing to hide and was willing to be investigated.
Speaking during an interview on Inooro Radio on Wednesday, September 2, Matiang’i said he had previously called for an inquiry into the matter and wanted all members of the National Security Council at the time to account for what they know.
“Even on the issue of River Yala, I am the one who called for a commission of inquiry. I said that if there is an issue about what I said and what was said in the Security Council, then we should go public,” he said.
📌 What You Need to Know
Matiang’i challenged the Head of State to establish the commission , saying he was ready to appear before it and testify under oath.
“You can set up a commission of inquiry even at KICC. I am ready to swear with the Bible. I will be the first to arrive there very early in the morning,” he stated.
The former CS noted that Ruto was serving as Deputy President during the period in question, while Joseph Boinett, who currently serves as Ruto’s security adviser, was the Inspector General of Police.
“At the time, the current President was the Deputy President and his current security adviser, Joseph Boinett, was the Inspector General. Then the judge will decide. I do not see any problem there,” Matiang’i said.
Matiang’i maintained that he had no problem with investigations and challenged anyone with evidence linking him to wrongdoing to report the matter to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
“If anyone has anything about me, let them come forward and go to the DCI and report. Let the file be opened and let me be charged,” he said.
