🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

Peschke announced the nomination on X on Friday, August 14, saying he was honoured by the opportunity and was looking forward to taking up the position.

“Good morning, and happy to share that I was nominated as EU Ambassador to Kenya. Feeling very honoured and looking forward to take up duty soon,” he said.

Peschke will succeed Henriette Geiger, who served as the EU Ambassador to Kenya from September 2021 before completing her tenure in 2026.

📌 What You Need to Know

The EU held a farewell reception for Geiger and other departing European ambassadors in July.

The German diplomat is no stranger to Kenya, having served as Germany's Ambassador in Nairobi from 2013 to 2015.

His previous posting gives him first-hand experience of Kenya and its political and diplomatic environment.

Peschke has built a career spanning more than three decades in German diplomacy, including assignments in Africa, Europe and Russia.

He joined Germany's Federal Foreign Office in 1996 and began his diplomatic career with postings including the German Embassy in Nigeria and later Russia.

He subsequently held senior positions at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin, including roles dealing with European affairs and serving as a spokesperson for German foreign policy.
