Political activist Morara Kebaso has announced that he has ditched his political party, the Independent Party of Kenya, and will now join the Jubilee Party ahead of the 2027 General Election.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

Speaking during an interview on Obinna TV on Monday, June 29, Kebaso said the decision was informed by what he termed 'political realities' in the Gusii region, where he has a political interest.

According to Kebaso, he is seeking to vie for the Borabu parliamentary seat in the upcoming elections, which is part of the reason why he abandoned his party.

“Inject Party will remain in the cupboard. For now, we are working with the Jubilee Party. We have to go with the realities of the politics of the day,” Kebaso stated.

📌 What You Need to Know

According to the activist turned politician, political success in the Gusii region requires alignment with dominant political formations, suggesting that smaller parties may struggle to gain traction among voters.

“In the Gusii region, you cannot talk of any other party. The people won’t listen and might not give you the opportunity to serve them even with good ideas,” he added.

Jubilee party, led by the fourth president, Uhuru Kenyatta, Kebaso says, is popular in Kisii and Nyamira counties because it is the party with which former cabinet secretary Fred Matiang'i, a regional leader, has announced his presidential bid.

Due to this reason, the Inject party will not have any impact in the area, and the activist's political ambition might end even before starting.
