Motorists have been warned to brace for traffic disruptions in Nairobi, with several roads set to remain closed for 14 hours on Sunday, September 27, 2026, as a cycling race takes place across parts of the city.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

The three affected roads will include the Southern Bypass, part of Ngong Road at the Lenana Interchange and the Uhuru Gardens-Carnivore stretch.

According to a road closure notice issued by the organisers, the restrictions will begin at midnight on Sunday and remain in place until 2pm.

The closures will facilitate the Jubilee Live Free Race 2026, which will start and finish at Uhuru Gardens.

📌 What You Need to Know

“Roads closed: the Southern Bypass, part of Ngong Road at the Lenana Interchange and the Uhuru Gardens/Carnivore stretch,” the notice stated.

The main race will cover 77.8 kilometres over two loops, while the Black Mamba and paracycling races will cover 39 kilometres in one loop.

A separate 20-kilometre Family Fun Ride for participants aged under 14 will also take place, with the route turning off at the NHC Southern Bypass.

The organisers advised motorists travelling through the affected areas to plan their journeys in advance and allow additional time to reach their destinations.

The Southern Bypass closure is expected to affect motorists using the route as they move between different parts of Nairobi and its outskirts during the race period.

Part of Ngong Road at the Lenana Interchange will also be closed, while motorists using the Uhuru Gardens-Carnivore stretch will have to seek alternative routes.
