Kuresoi North MP Alfred Mutai was detained at Nakuru Central Police Station on Monday night, moments after presenting himself to detectives investigating violent clashes that disrupted a youth empowerment programme in Kuresoi North last week.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
The legislator surrendered to officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) after days of being sought by police over the chaos that left three people nursing gunshot injuries during the event attended by leaders allied to Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika.
His detention came four days after the National Police Service (NPS) named him as the prime suspect in the violence and urged him to surrender to assist investigators.
Sources familiar with the matter indicated that the MP recorded a statement before officers ordered that he be held at Nakuru Central Police Station pending further investigations.

However, drama unfolded shortly after he arrived at the station when Mutai reportedly objected to spending the night in police cells and demanded alternative accommodation.
Videos obtained by Kenyans.co.ke showed tense exchanges between the legislator and police officers, with Mutai reportedly protesting his detention and arguing that he should not be subjected to the same holding conditions as other suspects.
Investigators, however, maintained that he would be treated like any other suspect in custody and would spend the night at the station as investigations continue.
The latest development follows Friday's violent clashes at a Youth and Women Empowerment Programme in Nyota Ward, Kuresoi North, where rival groups allegedly linked to Governor Susan Kihika and MP Mutai confronted each other.
Police said preliminary investigations showed that suspected goons allied to the MP clashed with supporters of the governor, leading to running battles that forced the event to end prematurely.
During the violence, three people sustained gunshot injuries, while a bus that had ferried tents and chairs to the venue was set ablaze by unknown individuals.
