Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has ordered a complete transfer of all police officers stationed at Keringet Police Station in sweeping orders after citizen complaints.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
Murkomen directed the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, to post 20 new police officers in the area within two weeks.
“All police officers who have stayed here for long and have been accused of alcoholism are to be taken to rehab and face disciplinary action,” Murkomen ordered at a public baraza in Keringet, Kuresoi South, Nakuru County, on Saturday, July 25.
Adding, “20 new officers will be brought here in the next two weeks.”
📌 What You Need to Know
Before the new officers come in, a specialised team from Nairobi is to be dispatched to the area for three weeks to fight alcohol and all other illegal substances.
The reshuffle follows community protests over localised insecurity, unresolved murders, and a government-led crackdown on illicit drug trafficking and substance abuse in the region.
According to locals, illegal activities are thriving in the area because some government officials, including chiefs, are asleep at the wheel.
Murkomen directed that all chiefs make immediate efforts to redeem themselves or quit their jobs.
“All chiefs who are not working have two weeks to make changes,” Murkomen declared while promising a new car for the area OCPD.
Failure to show any improvements will result in a disciplinary process being initiated against the chiefs.
