Interior cabinet secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has confirmed that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is analysing CCTV footage from the scene that captured goons attacking people at the all saints cathedral church on Friday, June 12.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
Speaking during a church service in Nairobi on Sunday, June 14, Murkomen condemned the incident, terming it extremely unfortunate.
According to the CS, detectives had already made arrests. They were using CCTV footage captured at the church to identify and track down additional suspects.
"There was an unfortunate incident which happened at All Saints Church, and I must say that that was really extremely unfortunate and unacceptable," Murkomen stated.
📌 What You Need to Know
"We know that they were captured on CCTV cameras. The DCI is already analysing that footage. One of them was arrested immediately, and a number are being arrested," he stated.
Murkomen vowed that all those found culpable of the attack would all be held accountable, emphasising that the government would not entertain anyone causing chaos, their affiliation or tribe notwithstanding.
His remarks come two days after suspected goons stormed a meeting at All Saints Cathedral, sparking public outrage and renewed calls for accountability over politically linked violence and insecurity in the capital.
According to CCTV footage from the church , the goons stormed the church in two phases, the first time in motorbikes before being dispersed by police at around 9.39 am.
However, shockingly, at around 10.11 am, the group the police had initially dispersed returned, this time abandoning their motorbikes and walking in.
Cameras captured them walking onto the church premises before heading towards the conference area, where a post-budget meeting by civil society groups was underway.
