Blow to politicians as Nairobi City County sets new daily charges for hosting political rallies at its sports facilities, a move likely to hit campaign budgets hard ahead of future political seasons.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

The charges, as announced through the Nairobi City County Finance Act 2026, as seen by  Kenyans.co.ke on August 23, mandate that any group wishing to hold a political rally at a county sports facility will now part with Ksh 70,000 for a single day.

On top of that, organisers must also pay an additional Ksh5,000 in extra charges and a refundable deposit of Ksh50,000, meant to cover any damage to county property.

At Joseph Kang'ethe Fenced Ground and Open Fields specifically, political rallies will cost less, with organisers required to pay Ksh 30,000 for the day.

📌 What You Need to Know

Just like the standard county rate, an additional charge of Ksh5,000 applies here too, on top of a refundable deposit of Ksh30,000 for the venue.

On the other hand, other types of rallies, those not strictly political in nature, will attract a slightly lower daily fee of Ksh50,000, alongside the same Ksh5,000 additional charge.

Organisers of these other rallies will also be required to pay a refundable deposit of Ksh50,000, which is returned once the facility is confirmed undamaged.

The new charges apply uniformly, regardless of which political party or camp is booking the venue, according to the amended schedule.

Beyond political gatherings, the schedule also spells out fees for other public events, with religious meetings set at Ksh 10,000 a day, plus Ksh5,000 extra charges and a Ksh 10,000 deposit.

Musical gatherings will cost organisers Ksh50,000 daily, with a Ksh5,000 additional fee and a heftier Ksh30,000 refundable deposit attached.
