A sitting Nairobi Member of County Assembly (MCA) has been charged alongside two other suspects over a violent robbery in Donholm, as authorities continue to grapple with a fresh wave of violent robberies that have unsettled residents in and around the capital.
🇰🇪 Breaking It Down
The three appeared before the Makadara Law Courts on Tuesday, where they pleaded not guilty to robbery with violence charges stemming from an incident that allegedly occurred on June 26, 2026, in Donholm, Nairobi.
According to investigators, the suspects allegedly attacked three victims before robbing them of cash and other valuables and then fled the scene. Detectives later launched investigations that led to the arrest of the three suspects before forwarding the case to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
While prosecutors did not disclose the value of the stolen property in court, they argued that the circumstances surrounding the attack amounted to robbery with violence under Kenyan law.
📌 What You Need to Know
The case has drawn significant public attention because one of the accused is a serving Nairobi MCA, placing an elected public official at the centre of a serious criminal prosecution.
The arraignment comes at a time when violent robberies have once again dominated security headlines across the Nairobi Metropolitan area.
In recent days, a CCTV clip obtained by Kenyans.co.ke captured the dramatic moment an armed robber stormed a salon in Ruaka, Kiambu County, sending customers and workers scrambling for safety before escaping with stolen valuables.
Separately, detectives from the DCI earlier this week confirmed they had fatally shot a key suspect linked to the viral armed robbery at a restaurant in Spring Valley, Nairobi, during a shootout in Joska, Machakos County.
The recent incidents have renewed concerns over violent crime targeting businesses and members of the public, with security agencies intensifying operations against criminal gangs operating within Nairobi and neighbouring counties.
Following Tuesday's plea, the Makadara Law Court granted each of the three accused persons a bond of Ksh1 million or an alternative cash bail of Ksh500,000 pending the hearing and determination of the case.
