Hundreds of Nairobi residents face mass water disconnection after the Nairobi City Water and Sewage Company announced a major disconnection exercise targeting Utawala residents.

🇰🇪 Breaking It Down

According to the water agency, the exercise will be conducted on Friday, August 28, by its officials in the Upper Embakasi region, targeting customers with outstanding water bills.

To avoid water disconnection, the company called on affected landlords and tenants to clear their pending bills before the exercise begins.

"The Upper Embakasi region will be conducting a mass disconnection exercise targeting the Utawala Zone. Customers are urged to clear any outstanding bills before the exercise date," the agency stated.

📌 What You Need to Know

While calling for prompt compliance, Nairobi Water also warned customers that those whose supplies are disconnected could incur additional charges when seeking reconnection.

To make payments, the company urged customers to query their bill through *260# or directly make their payment through the mobile money paybill 444400 or any of our authorised pay partners.

The notice comes as the water agency intensifies its efforts to recover outstanding water bills and ensure all customers meet their payment obligations.

Typically, in Nairobi, water reconnection attracts a Ksh5,000 fee plus double deposit , while sewer connection costs between Ksh15,000 and Ksh25,000 depending on the type of dwelling.

Nonetheless, this is not the first time Nairobi Water has conducted mass disconnections in the wider Embakasi region, targeting non-compliant water users.

In May this year, the agency conducted a similar exercise in Embakasi East following the lapse of a 21-day grace period, leaving several residents without water for weeks.
